Could You Be Paying Too Much For Parking Fines?

Could You Be Paying Too Much For Parking Fines?

The cost of doing business in urban areas is high. Making that sale or carrying out your duties often means overstaying your welcome and picking up a parking fine from the meter-milkers. Some businesses factor the additional cost of parking fines into their whole-life cost scenario, while others pass the cost back to the driver. Either way it’s an added financial burden, and that hurts.

If your blood pressure wasn’t already hitting the danger zone at this point, to add pain to injury, when the finance department gets the final bill forwarded on by their fleet provider it can be nearly a third more expensive than the original fine. That’s inflation, but not as we know it… so what’s happened?

The increased cost is often the result of a fines administration fee applied by the fleet supplier. This is generally charged to cover the cost of returning the penalty charge notice to the issuing authority, so that it can be redirected to your finance department. At around £15 a pop – or more – this can add a significant amount onto the cost of the original fine. Apply this fee to every parking fine incurred and that amount soon racks up.

So, what’s the answer? Find a contract hire company that doesn’t charge for fines administration (like us).
