Increased Registrations Could Present Future Challenges for Fleet Providers

Increased Registrations Could Present Future Challenges for Fleet Providers

This week the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revised its forecast for 2013 new car registrations to 2.216 million units - a 8.4% increase on the 2012 figures. While the move is encouraging news for the UK motor industry, it may not prove quite so positive for fleet providers. Peter Cakebread, Managing Director at Marshall Leasing, comments: "This is certainly a case of there being two sides to the story. From one perspective it is of course very good news. But looking at the situation from the other side - from the point of view of those who rely... Read full article

Cars Of The Future & Predictions From The Past

Cars Of The Future & Predictions From The Past

The automobile has come a long way since the first gas fuelled vehicle was invented by Karl Benz in 1886. After this three-wheeled creation hit the roads, the car went from strength to strength. Improvements have been particularly notable in the last decade where revolutionary technology has been introduced to enhance the driving experience. Over the years, many people have made outrageous predictions about the development of the car but some weren't so far off... In the RAC’s 1989 motoring survey, 7% of drivers thought that cars would be... Read full article

Goodwood Moving Motor Show

Goodwood Moving Motor Show

This year Goodwood celebrated its 20th year of hosting the world’s most popular motor sport and car culture show. Below is the first poster, from 1993. With a swing band and plenty of Pimms to go around the vintage section of the festival offered the group a chance to take a trip down memory lane [below, top right]. The Goodwood Hill was of course a central attraction [bottom right] whilst the famous Ferrari structure [left] was hard to miss!  In true festival style there was a pop up area that included deck chairs and an array of land-speed record... Taking a Company Car Across Europe? – Steer Clear of Driving on the Wrong Side of the Law

Taking a Company Car Across Europe? – Steer Clear of Driving on the Wrong Side of the Law

With summer just around the corner, conditions are ideal for a trip across the channel. However, those planning to drive a company car abroad should beware: there are a multitude of laws, which are regularly evolving. France offered us a good example of this earlier in the year after indefinitely deferring the €11 fine for anyone not travelling with a breathalyser. The penalty might be postponed, but it’s important to note that it is still compulsory to carry a breathalyser that’s both in-date and shows the French certification mark... Read full article

Smarter Driving: It All Adds Up

Smarter Driving: It All Adds Up

A few months ago we enrolled our team on the Energy Saving Trust’s Smarter Driving training – a one-off course that encourages efficient driving through the analysis of CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. Eight team members took part in the workshop, which was held in Marshall Leasing’s home town of Huntington. After displaying their sensible driving skills on a test circuit, our team were given guidance on how they could be even smarter on the roads. Then they had the chance to get back out on the test circuit and put into practice what they had just... Read full article

Calling All ACFO Members – Your Vote Counts

Next month, the office will be buzzing as we eagerly await the verdict from the Association of Car Fleet Operators (ACFO) on the two Directors that it will be appointing to its Board. New Congestion Charge Policy Could Provoke Unintended Reaction, Says Marshall Leasing

Feedback gathered by Marshall Leasing on the change in London congestion charging policy suggests that businesses will not be manipulated into fulfilling the Mayor of London’s electric vehicle vision, and that the increased financial burden could encourage them to look at other, contrary ways to cut costs. A number of the London-based Marshall Leasing clients questioned admitted that the new Ultra Low Emission Discount will not prompt them to buy an electric fleet to run in the capital. Instead, there was concern about how a price hike will be managed following... Read full article

Take Action - Go Greener

Take Action - Go Greener

We're being given plenty of reasons to think ‘green’ at the moment. The Chancellor gave us some in his recent Budget, the Mayor of London has offered a few with his latest congestion charging plans, and manufacturers and technology providers are constantly evolving their products with environmental impact in mind. It’s fair to say that green is most definitely ‘in’ – and with good reason. Did you know that…? As of June last year, there were 34.6-million licensed vehicles on Britain’s roads. That’s...
