Highways England Calling UK Drivers to Stop Motorway Litter

Highways England Calling UK Drivers to Stop Motorway Litter

Litter is the bane of our nation. Many an argument is drum up from the sight of broken glass bottles, crisp packets and busted tyre rings, although this is soon to be addressed by the governing body of our beloved roads. Highways England is encouraging all drivers to encourage and join them in doing a small favour to reduce litter levels on the nation’s motorways. We’ve all been there, you’re going along the motorway on your way to your destination when a paper cup comes flying your way from the car in front.

Litter like this can be a serious safety risk, such as metal left in the road, and besides being unsightly, this presents a risk to wildlife and the environment around us. On average, around 200,000 bags of litter are collected from the UK’s motorways each year, and as a result, Highways England is taking part in ‘Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean’ which raises awareness for others to help keep the country clean.

Highways England has also participated in cleaning up litter nationwide last year, in between the tricky problems that the ‘Beast from the East’ provided for the UK. In this period, over 8,000 bags of litter were collected, and the institution is looking to exceed that figure this year. At Marshall Leasing, we are conscious of the environment and your decisions as a fleet driver. If you also feel strongly about litter and want to make a change for the good, we are at hand to help you with your green policy decisions for your vehicle.
