A Drive-In Cinema Is Coming To A City Near You

Lockdown has taken its toll on everybody. We have missed simple pleasures, like a sit-down meal at a nice restaurant or a trip to the cinema. Whilst restrictions are easing, and we are seeing the re-opening of these social businesses, many of us will continue to avoid them until we are clear of the pandemic. 

Festival organiser, Alan Crofton, has recognised this and has pivoted to bring us @TheDriveIn in partnership with Suzuki, which is, as the name suggests, a drive-in cinema that is currently touring the UK. Social distance-friendly, of course, which we at Marshall Leasing are all for. 

London saw the pop-up event first, on July 2 2020, and @TheDriveIn will be making its way to ten other large cities across the UK including Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff. Find out here when the event will come to your city. 

The pop-up cinema is inspired by 1950’s American drive-ins and includes bingo, silent discos and stand-up comedy before the main event. Also, the food service is American-inspired, with waiters on roller-skates delivering orders placed via the @TheDriveIn app. 

So far, the travelling cinema has played ‘Grease’ singalongs, ‘Jaws’ silent discos and ‘A Star Is Born’ karaoke, along with a host of other Hollywood favourites. 

Tickets, sold for £35 per car, are to be bought in advance online and number plates will be checked on arrival with a contactless system, to ensure the safety of everyone. 

In a recent Instagram post, following the debut of their pop-up event, @TheDriveIn said “We’ve had a ball welcoming our first viewers to watch some blockbuster classics on the big screen the past couple of days, as well as hosting hilarious comedy, sing a long CARaoke, interactive quizzes and even a dance cam competition. There really wasn’t a second to miss!”.
