What do you think of the current driving for work guidance?

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Department for Transport (DfT) are calling on fleet decision-makers to give feedback about how the current driving for work guidance can be improved.

A recent study found a lack of attention to work-related road safety by policy makers in the van, company car and grey fleet sector, with one in three of UK road fatalities occurring in driving for work collisions.

In 2018, 520 people died in driving for work collisions, 83% (432) of whom were road users not driving for work. This is compared with 144 fatal non-car and van related workplace accidents in the year 2017/2018.

The official guidance INDG382: Driving at Work was produced by HSE and DfT in 2014, but now the official bodies are concerned that due to recent significant developments in driving technology and practices, the guidance may be outdated.

Together, the HSE and DfT have created a survey aimed at fleet-decision makers to collect opinions on how the guidance should be updated. The survey will close on January 31 2021.

We at Marshall Leasing are supportive of this move by the HSE and DfT and hope that fleet decision-makers will have their say to improve the safety of those driving for work. Safety is a top priority to all of us at Marshall Leasing and we would be delighted to speak to you about how we can help you manage risk.
