Road pricing is an inevitable solution to the motoring tax gap, says the BVRLA

Road pricing is an inevitable solution to the motoring tax gap, says the BVRLA

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA), along with representatives from the RAC foundation, the Renewable Energy Association (REA) and the Road Haulage Association (RHA) have voiced their opinions to the Transport Committee that a new road pricing scheme should be developed urgently in order to achieve a smooth transition from the current emissions-based tax scheme.  Following the Treasury’s Net Zero review, the BVRLA say that road pricing will be an inevitable solution to the £37billion void... Electric vehicle internet searches have soared amid HGV driver shortage

Electric vehicle internet searches have soared amid HGV driver shortage

Electric car experts Elecritfying.com recently reported to the RAC that searches on its website relating to electric vehicles (EVs) increased by 75 per cent in the weekend of October Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th.  At the same time, Google searches for ‘electric car’ were up by 300 per cent. It is possible that the current shortage of HGV drivers delivering fuel to forecourts could be linked to the significant spike in searches for EVs, for which the charging infrastructure is less dependent on external factors than petrol and... AFP urges eLCV fleets to monitor cost this winter

AFP urges eLCV fleets to monitor cost this winter

The Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) has urged fleets who are running electric light commercial vehicles (eLCVs) through their first winter of operation to closely monitor costs. AFP chair Paul Hollick said, “eLCVs have arrived on quite a number of fleets for the first time in recent months and so far, the feedback we are hearing is that the operational experience seen across the AFP has been positive. “However, it’s widely known that the cold weather conditions can have a sometimes very noticeable effect on battery efficiency and we are... Oxford will launch its Zero Emission Zone pilot in February 2022

Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council have confirmed that the city will introduce Britain’s first Zero Emission Zone (ZEZ) pilot in February 2022.   The registration system for exemptions and discounts, including for businesses and residents in the zone, will go live in December 2021 in preparation for the launch.  The ZEZ, approved in March 2021, was originally set to go live in August 2021. This deadline was postponed to avoid disruption during the run up to Christmas, which is a crucial time for businesses recovering from the... Read full article

Could ‘range anxiety’ encourage safer driving?

Could ‘range anxiety’ encourage safer driving?

The results of a recent poll by the AA suggest that those driving an electric vehicle (EV) are less likely to be involved in accidents than those in petrol or diesel cars because "range anxiety", the fear of running out of battery whilst driving, causes drivers to reduce their speed. The poll of 14,000 drivers found that 51 per cent had range anxiety when driving on a motorway.  AA president Edmund King said, “The obsession with range when behind the wheel does also influence drivers to slow down, keep constant speeds and avoid sharp braking... OZEV launch a consultation on zero-emission vehicles

OZEV launch a consultation on zero-emission vehicles

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) has announced a new £950 million Rapid Charging Fund available in England only, which aims to ‘future-proof electrical capacity at motorway and major A road service areas to prepare the network for 100% zero emissions vehicles (ZEV) uptake’. However, there is concern that current exclusive arrangements between charge point operators and motorway service stations could potentially cause awarding cash from this fund to be challenged on state subsidy or other grounds. OZEV launched a... Read full article
