IAM RoadSmart finds more than half a million drivers have at least 6 points on their licence

Analysis of Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA) data by road safety charity IAM RoadSmart finds that more than half a million motorists in the UK (542,287) have six points on their driving licence and almost 100,000 (94,088) have nine points. Given that being caught looking at – or even holding – a mobile device whilst driving carries an automatic £200 fine plus six points on your licence, and an accumulated total of twelve points automatically results in a driving ban, 636,375 motorists are just a text away from having their licence... Update on the new 20MPH speed limits in Wales

Update on the new 20MPH speed limits in Wales

One month on from the implementation of blanket speed limit reductions in Wales, it has been discovered that the 20MPH roads have seen an average speed reduction of just 2.3MPH. Research and analytics company Agilysis provided the data, relating to 10,000 vehicles within a sample area, which shows that many drivers are not slowing down to comply with the new speed limit. One week after the limit changes, speeds had dropped by 3.1MPH, which increased to 2.3MPH after one month. Agilysis CEO and author of the report Richard Owen stated, “The evidence on this... London’s Air Ambulance and Marshall Leasing to supply six new Emergency Response vehicles to the Capital

London’s Air Ambulance Charity (LAA) has introduced six new Blue Light Response vehicles to the fleet with support from their new funding partner, Marshall Leasing. The new Volvo XC90s will replace the outgoing vehicle fleet, which operates to ensure 24/7 coverage for the emergency service provider and deliver LAA’s Physician Response Unit. The vehicles work in conjunction with LAA’s two MD902 Explorer helicopters to provide the charity’s Rapid Response team, reacting to Emergency Trauma calls and serving the ten million people that live and work... There were more fatal collisions in 2022 than any other year in the past decade

There were more fatal collisions in 2022 than any other year in the past decade

A recent report by the Department for Transport (DfT) reveals that the number of deaths caused by road traffic accidents in Britain rose by 10 per cent year on year between 2021 and 2022. The rise of fatalities from 1,558 in 2021 to 1,711 in 2022 has been attributed by the government to an increased number of cars on the road following the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions. Interestingly, data from 2019 supports this theory because it shows that there was a 2 per cent decline in the number of road fatalities which occurred in 2022 compared with 2019. In 2022, Great... Will we see you at the Fleet Summit?

Will we see you at the Fleet Summit?

In his role as a director of the Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP), our very own Richard Baird has been invited to present at this year’s Fleet Summit alongside fellow board member James Pestell.  They will be hosting a presentation and panel session under the heading ‘Key Corporate Fleet EV Market Trends’, which should prove both insightful and engaging. The session will cover some of the most pertinent fleet discussion topics that fleet managers are talking about today, focusing on all elements of the EV... Read full article

The number of parking tickets issued in the UK rises almost 30 per cent

The number of parking tickets issued in the UK rises almost 30 per cent

Analysis of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) data produced by PA News and the RAC Foundation found that motorists in the UK received a record-breaking 11.1 million parking tickets from private firms in the year leading up to March 2023. This is a daily average of 30,400 parking notices every day and equates to an annual rise of 29 per cent. Importantly, these figures do not take into account data about car parks run by local councils across the UK. This increase is one of several parking-related issues currently facing motorists, in addition to the... Read full article

Five-step guide to electrification by the Association of Fleet Professionals

Five-step guide to electrification by the Association of Fleet Professionals

Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) chairman Paul Hollick recently spoke to FleetWorld about the organisation’s five-step guide to electric vehicle (EV) adoption for fleets. Step 1: Profile your fleet The first step is to note the basic questions any fleet manager asks themselves when purchasing any vehicle - what the vehicle will be used for and how and where it will be used. The information can then be used to select the right EV model for your business and help you assess any changes you may need to make within your organisation to prepare for EV... Read full article

Incorrectly installed ULEZ camera generates £11,000 in wrongly issued fines

Incorrectly installed ULEZ camera generates £11,000 in wrongly issued fines

A camera installed to monitor roads within London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) has resulted in 927 drivers incorrectly receiving fines. It was discovered that the camera had been installed pointing the wrong way towards Harrow’s Old Redding Junction, which is outside of the ULEZ and therefore travelling on this road should not incur a charge. The wrongly issued fines amount to a total of £11,000 which Transport for London (TfL) has now refunded. The camera has also now been reinstalled in the correct position. If you believe that you have... Read full article

Guidance will be updated to prevent blanket use of 20MPH speed limits

Guidance will be updated to prevent blanket use of 20MPH speed limits

The government recently revealed in a new policy paper called The Plan for Drivers that guidance for councils on implementing 20MPH zones in England will be updated to prevent ‘inappropriate blanket use’. The guidance will state that councils may only enforce the lower speed limit where there is a ‘good reason’ and it will also underline that 30MPH remains the default speed limit on urban roads. In response, road safety charity Brake has called for the government to prioritise support for road victims and ensure that the safety of individuals... Read full article
