First WLTP results spell near-future tax burden for fleets

Vehicles re-tested under the new WLTP fuel economy cycle are recording “greater than expected” increases in CO2 emissions when figures are converted back to NEDC, JATO Dynamics has warned, adding that this will result in significant tax rises for fleets over the coming 12 months The World Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) came into force in September, replacing the New European Drive Cycle (NEDC) and aimed at offering more representative fuel consumption and CO2 emission data for new vehicles. Within 12 months, all new cars will have to... Read full article

When Will You Have Your Self-Driving Company Car Fleet?

When Will You Have Your Self-Driving Company Car Fleet?

We’ve seen them in the movies, from ‘KITT’ the star of Knight Rider to the unfortunate ‘Johnny cabs’ in Total Recall, but when will we see them on our streets? And more specifically, when will they be a reality for everyday day use in our companies? It’s believed that self-driving cars offer a wealth of benefits to road users—including cyclists and pedestrians. As human error is the single biggest risk in driving, they’re expected to bring a dramatic increase in safety and a significant reduction in accidents. In one study... Read full article

The Quick Guide to Choosing The Right Vehicles For Your Fleet

The Quick Guide to Choosing The Right Vehicles For Your Fleet

A company car can mean many things to many people: a mobile workplace, a public statement, a part of a wider supply chain; whatever it is, it’s a much valued component of your organisation. So it goes without saying they need to be reliable, economical, and above all, fit for purpose. It’s strange then—but not unsurprising—to see many organisations base their decisions according to superficial factors like make, model, and lease cost. This behaviour is known to lead to problems related to unsuitability and maintenance issues further down... Read full article

The Future of Self-flying Taxi Services is in Full Flight

The Future of Self-flying Taxi Services is in Full Flight

Does hopping in a small aircraft and flying over to a business meeting instead of taking a cab sound too farfetched or the vision of some far-off future? Autonomous air taxi service Volocopter would disagree. In September 2017, in Dubai, the German-based transportation company conducted the first successful test flight of their manned, fully-electric passenger drone. The giant helicopter slash drone has two seats, eighteen propellers, and is powered by nine electric batteries which give a flight time of around thirty minutes. Although the taxi service would involve... Read full article

Is The Future of Transport Electric? These Car Manufacturing Giants Think So

Is The Future of Transport Electric? These Car Manufacturing Giants Think So

Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are far from a short term fad. From 2013 to September 2017, new registrations of plug-in cars soared from 3,500 to more than 126,000. And with almost every manufacturer offering or releasing a plug-in hybrid vehicle, it seems the trend will only get stronger. Automakers will only produce more and more electric vehicles, if not to meet the growing customer demand, to not get left behind by the competition, come under emission targets, and get their money’s worth from the long term investment that is electric power. So, if... Read full article

3 Advantages of The Intelligent Company Car Fleet

The typical, everyday car has looked much the same since the times of the Model T. Performance and efficiency has improved, but it’s still not much more than a tin can on four wheels. It seems the structure and aesthetics of a vehicle has reached the height of its innovation. But its evolution doesn’t stop there. Now, the automobile is moving on from being mostly about its hardware and what’s under the bonnet, to the technology in the cab and the software it runs. Enter a new wave in vehicle innovation: connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs).... Read full article

Is 2017 The Year To Update Your Fleet to Hybrid or Pure Electric?

Is 2017 The Year To Update Your Fleet to Hybrid or Pure Electric?

Electric vehicles seem like a modern day advancement in transportation. But electric vehicles are actually an age old technology — it was the early nineteenth century, over two hundred years ago, when the first electric car was built and hit the streets. So the fact is electric vehicles, whether hybrid or pure electric, have been around a long time. It’s just it took until recently for them to become feasible and in high enough demand — what with the costs of running petrol and diesel vehicles rising, the scale of charging infrastructure expanding,...
