Peter Cakebread inaugurated into FN50 Hall of Fame
07 November 2014
On Tuesday night, at the annual FN50 dinner, Peter Cakebread was inaugurated into the FN50 Hall of Fame. This was, of course, about recognising the man, but it is also about recognition of the brand. Coincidentally, Peter has been with Marshall for almost 25 years, and alongside his inauguration it was announced that Marshall Leasing has hit 25 in the Fleet News top 50 leasing companies in order of size.
Twenty five years is a long time on anyone’s loyalty card, and Peter has not made this journey alone. Alongside him are fellow directors and valued staff, not to mention customers who have been with him throughout. When you consider that the largest bank-owned players in the industry have fleets in the tens of thousands, it tells us a great deal about the values and ethics that both Peter and Marshall represent, and how relevant these factors are to the great and the good of our industry. By electing Peter they are, in a very real sense, endorsing the philosophy on which his company has been built.
"This is a once in a life-time opportunity, and a chance to give something back to the industry," said Peter.
Reputation is probably the single most important value asset to any company. How appropriate that a company such as Marshall, which was founded more than 110 years ago as a hire car business, has been able to support Peter in building such an important stake in the fleet leasing fraternity. This is a milestone occasion, and it also endorses our key company banner: “Reputation: We won’t compromise because your trust is what makes us successful.”
Gerry Keaney, chief executive of the BVRLA, said: “Peter has been a long-term, consistent supporter of the BVRLA and has never been afraid to put the interests of the wider sector ahead of his own position. His calm, composed and pragmatic style make him the ideal chairman and I have really valued his advice, feedback and sense of humour during my first 18 months at the association.”
