2030 deadline for electrification: What you need to know

We understand that you are likely to be worried about the 2030 deadline for the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans, and what it might mean for your fleet. In this transition period, it is important to get to grips with the factors that will influence your ability to meet the deadline.  At present, Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax has been greatly reduced for low and zero-emission vehicles until 2024-25. The government has not yet given clarification as to whether these rates will remain until the end of the decade. For people responsible... Read full article

Drivers are switching off ADAS safety systems

Autoglass surveyed 1,400 drivers with advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) enabled vehicles and found that 41% intentionally switch off safety systems such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB), which are now a common feature in new cars and vans, or lane departure warning systems, whilst driving. Almost a quarter (24%) of ADAS enabled vehicle drivers said they had not been provided with any information about the importance of safety features. Clearly, ADAS can help keep drivers and passengers safe, but only if the technology is switched on and operating... Read full article

Demand for company vehicles set to increase

The Covid-related restrictions imposed throughout 2020 have forced companies across the UK to alter their business models for survival.  In September 2020, after six months of these restrictions, Driving for Better Business carried out two surveys to determine scope of the effects of coronavirus on businesses. One contacted 150 owners of small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) with a turnover of less than £10 million who hire people to drive for work, and the other contacted 152 board-level decision-makers in larger firms.  Whilst there was...
