A new ‘power swap station’ has been opened in Denmark.
The station will allow drivers of NIO electric vehicles to swap their drained EV battery for a fully charged one, rather than waiting at a charging point.
The power swap station process is fully autonomous. The vehicle is raised in order for the drained battery to be mechanically unscrewed, removed and replaced with a charged one capable of travelling up to 500km.
The process takes around five minutes, during which time the station continues to charge its stock of batteries at a slow rate in order...

The cost of charging an electric vehicle when using a public facility has risen by 42 per cent and is nearing the same price as fuelling internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
According to the RAC, exclusively using rapid or ultra-rapid public EV chargers costs around 18 pence per mile, compared with roughly 19 pence per mile for petrol and 21 pence per mile for diesel.
RAC spokesman Simon Williams said, "It remains the case that charging away from home costs less than refuelling a petrol or diesel car, but these figures show that the gap is narrowing...

The EV charging app Zap Map has released new research in partnership with GoCompare electric vehicle insurance which shows that rising energy prices mean EV drivers will be paying an annual average of £220 more to charge their vehicle this year than in 2021.
The research found that, as of June 2022, the cost of rapidly charging an EV has risen to 48 pence per kWh from 35 pence per kWh in December 2021. Regular EV charging has also increased to 33 pence per kWh from 24 pence per kWh in the same period.
Of course, EV drivers are still better off...

Smart charge points communicate with each other, your car and the charging grid. The main benefit of smart charging is optimising grid power and efficiency.
Without smart charging, the grid is at risk of becoming overloaded, which could impact the ability for you to charge your car at certain times and potentially make charging more costly.
How does smart charging work?
The word ‘smart’ generally refers to automation, as is the case for smart EV charging.
When you plug your EV into a smart charger, the charger shares...
