Have You Heard About the Cycling Revolution?

Have You Heard About the Cycling Revolution?

The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has launched the ‘government’s most ambitious plans yet to boost cycling and walking’, as announced by the Department for Transport on July 28 2020. The plans will be funded by a £2 billion government spend.  The launch will see ‘thousands of miles of new protected bike lanes, cycle training for any child or adult, and first ever zero-emission transport city’ as well as a new ‘Fix your bike’ voucher scheme. The vouchers will be available for all members of the public and... Read full article

Employees Are Calling for EV Charging Points at Work

Employees Are Calling for EV Charging Points at Work

The demand for electric vehicle charging points is rising still, as it has been recently discovered by the joint Government and industry campaign ‘Go Ultra Low’ that one in three people who work in an office would like to see the introduction of EV charging points to staff car parks.   This information comes from a survey conducted by Go Ultra Low, which was prompted by a recent change to benefit-in-kind (BIK) tax this year. This change means that people who drive company cars, which are purely electric, will pay no BIK tax in... Read full article

Motorists Welcome New Motorway Speed Limit

Motorists Welcome New Motorway Speed Limit

The speed limit through motorway roadworks in England is set to change, thanks to the persistence of motorists.  On Sunday, July 26 2020, the forthcoming change was announced on the Highways England website, after trialling the idea over the past 18 months.  The limit will see an increase of 10mph, rising from 50mph to 60mph. The change comes after Highways England conducted research amongst motorists, which reflected that many were ‘frustrated at not being able to go quicker’. Some would say that this frustration has been... Read full article

Drive-In Entertainment Continues to Make a Comeback

Drive-In Entertainment Continues to Make a Comeback

Comedian Mark Watson has partnered with Drive & Dine Theatre to bring us his very own Carpool Comedy Club. In an Instagram post back in April, Mark Watson shared a link to the announcement, made by Chortle. Mark Watson said, “As soon as you heard people are starting to do comedy as drive-in nights, you knew deep down I’d get involved. And here we are. “It’s a new kind of challenge, and someone who’s been doing this for more than 15 years doesn’t often get the chance to say that.  “The... Pothole Patrol Busy as Ever in Lockdown

Pothole Patrol Busy as Ever in Lockdown

Given that over the past four months our roads have seen a 60% reduction in the volume of traffic, the breakdown-due-to-potholes percentage statistics are exceptionally worrying. This is because the RAC has reported that during the period between the beginning of April 2020 and the end of June 2020, just a three-month period, they were called out to 1,766 incidents in which drivers had “fallen foul of potholes”, which is virtually the same as it was the year before. In most cases, a nasty run-in with a pothole can damage shock absorbers, suspension springs... Read full article

A Drive-In Cinema Is Coming To A City Near You

A Drive-In Cinema Is Coming To A City Near You

Lockdown has taken its toll on everybody. We have missed simple pleasures, like a sit-down meal at a nice restaurant or a trip to the cinema. Whilst restrictions are easing, and we are seeing the re-opening of these social businesses, many of us will continue to avoid them until we are clear of the pandemic.  Festival organiser, Alan Crofton, has recognised this and has pivoted to bring us @TheDriveIn in partnership with Suzuki, which is, as the name suggests, a drive-in cinema that is currently touring the UK. Social distance-friendly, of course, which... Read full article

UK Holidaymakers Begin Staycation Boom

UK Holidaymakers Begin Staycation Boom

The fourth of July weekend, just gone, saw English holidaymakers bring back the ‘staycation’.  While there are no official statistics as of yet, the weekend just gone saw the beginning of the predicted boom in staycations, with our roads busier than ever.  As announced by the government last month (June 23 2020) beauty spots, hotels and campsites re-opened across England on Saturday, July 4th 2020. At the same time, travel restrictions were eased to allow for up to two households to travel and stay together overnight in self-contained... Read full article

Two EV Charging Points For Every Petrol Station

Two EV Charging Points For Every Petrol Station

As technology improves, and we realise more and more the need to switch to low carbon living, electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular. Arguably, one of the biggest factors holding some people back from switching to electric is the common myth, shared throughout the UK, that EV charging points are few and far between. This is despite the fact that the number of these facilities has been on a steep incline over the last few years. According to the AA, there are twice as many EV charging points (17,947) as there are petrol stations (3,107). So, why then do... Read full article

Changes to Consider When Driving Abroad in a Company Car

Changes to Consider When Driving Abroad in a Company Car

If you are someone who isn’t keen on flying abroad for your holidays, driving into Europe in a company car can be an enjoyable and diverse experience when compared to a traditional week-long beach holiday. Not only do many European countries drive on the opposite side of the road, but legislation and driving rules have changed dramatically in the last couple of months, especially in France. With Brexit being a huge talking point in recent years, driving on the continent may have a bigger effect on travel than you think. Perhaps unsurprisingly, 41% of people... Read full article
