Automated lane keeping systems approved by UN regulations

Automated lane keeping systems approved by UN regulations

The use of automated lane keeping systems (ALKS) has been approved by United Nations regulations that came into force in Britain. The decision follows a call for evidence in August 2020 which offered anyone with knowledge or concerns surrounding ALKS “opportunity to help shape future policy’. The Department for Transport (DfT) has suggested that the technology could be used in stop-start traffic of up to 37MPH and would be confined to roads where traffic moving in opposite directions is physically separated and no pedestrians or cyclists... Self-driving cars could make up 40% of all new UK car sales by 2035

New research by the Department for Transport and the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles suggests that self-driving technology will be present in 40% of all new UK car sales by 2035, with a total market value of £41.7 billion. A self-driving car could save you a speeding ticket

Owners of self-driving cars could be classed as ‘users-in-charge’ rather than drivers by 2023, which could result in a shift in legal responsibilities. The Law Commission’s latest report concludes that drivers of automatic vehicles “would not be liable for any criminal offence or civil penalty which arises out of dynamic driving. They would, however, be subject to other driver... Read full article

Licence Check to launch Driver Audit

Licence Check to launch Driver Audit

Licence Check has anticipated that there will be an increase in grey fleet drivers due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. In light of this, they will launch an online audit module, Driver Audit, at Virtual Fleet & Mobility Live, an online demo webinar taking place from November 17-19 2020. A Driving for Better Business survey in 2019 found that 60% of senior managers didn’t know the size of their grey fleet and 53% thought it wasn’t their responsibility to know this or to manage these drivers. Terry Hiles, general manager at Licence... Read full article

When Will You Have Your Self-Driving Company Car Fleet?

When Will You Have Your Self-Driving Company Car Fleet?

We’ve seen them in the movies, from ‘KITT’ the star of Knight Rider to the unfortunate ‘Johnny cabs’ in Total Recall, but when will we see them on our streets? And more specifically, when will they be a reality for everyday use in our companies? It’s believed that self-driving cars offer a wealth of benefits to road users—including cyclists and pedestrians. As human error is the single biggest risk in driving, they’re expected to bring a dramatic increase in safety and a significant reduction in accidents. In one... Read full article
