The Dangers of Flood Water

The Dangers of Flood Water

As we edge closer to Christmas day you may be thinking how best to prepare for the icy roads over the festive week. However, temperatures are expected to be quite mild in the coming days which means less snow and ice but potentially more downpours. This comes from the Met Office who have issued multiple weather warnings across the UK over the busiest travel period before Christmas. Just because the roads are not covered with ice and snow does not mean you should underestimate the dangers of heavy rain and flooding. Research from the Environment Agency and the AA have... Are Smart Motorways really the way forward?

Are Smart Motorways really the way forward?

Smart motorways have been in the UK since 2006 when they were first trialed on the M42. The goal of their introduction was to combat the 60% traffic increase that has been predicted by 2040. To do this they would function without a hard shoulder to increase the capacity of the motorway whilst using lane control to protect broken down vehicles. However, does the theory match what motorists think? With no hard shoulder to pull into, broken down vehicles must stop in an active lane if they are not near an SOS area. This can be a major safety concern for motorists with... Read full article

ULEZ Zones Proving a Success in London

ULEZ Zones Proving a Success in London

Research from the Mayor of London’s office has revealed that the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in London has proven to be a success. The two key areas where it has been effective is in reducing the number of cars in the zone and cutting toxic air pollution. Could this new charging system be the way forward for cities? The figures showed that in the first six months 13,500 fewer cars drove into central London every day which resulted in a 36% fall of roadside nitrogen dioxide (NO2) pollution. For a project that was a ‘world’s first’ this is... Read full article

New Road Pricing Set to Replace Fuel Duty

New Road Pricing Set to Replace Fuel Duty

The Transport Committee has announced it will launch an inquiry into new road pricing in 2020. This is in response to the decline of fuel duty, which has fallen by £19 billion since 2000. It is also predicted the annual £40 billion income from fuel duty and Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) is likely to decline sharply in the future. These taxes may cease to exist at all if the government achieves its target to fully decarbonise road transport in the next two decades. Due to the falling figures, the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has recently said that the... Read full article

Hybrid and Electric Car Models Discovered as UK’s Most Dependable Vehicles

Acquiring efficient vehicles as part of your fleet is a step to meeting new legislative changes, although we can all improve on our day-to-day practices. In a recent study by What Car? surveying more than 18,000 drivers, the UK’s most dependable vehicles were considered to be hybrid and electric (EV). With many vehicles suffering a close 50% failure rate, this highlights the importance for fleets to be aware of vehicle conditions and reliability, especially with poor weather which is about to take a turn for the worst. To assist in this often misunderstood,... Read full article

This move has been identified as a key part of Sadiq... Read full article

Drivers Feeling Frustration of Fluctuating Petrol Price

Drivers Feeling Frustration of Fluctuating Petrol Price

Although the average price of both petrol and diesel across the country fell slightly in August, retailers failed to pass the entire discount in the wholesale price of unleaded to UK drivers. According to the RAC, drivers are right to be ‘angry’ at the low petrol price drop because savings are not being passed on.  One litre of petrol reduced by 0.27p to 128.88p, although in comparison, the wholesale price came down dramatically by 4.38p to 96.57p. In comparison, each litre of diesel decreased by 0.38p to 131.66p, while the wholesale price fell by 1p a... Read full article
