Hard Shoulder Causing Confusion for UK Drivers

Drivers Highlight Problems with Potholes Every 45 Seconds

As the ‘summer’ weather is now taking a turn for the worse, drivers and other road users are becoming more conscious of the changing conditions to affecting trips up and down the country. Last year, it was reported that potholes and cracks in the road prompted a complaint every 45 seconds from frustrated motorists, cyclists and business owners in the UK. This amounted to 700,000 complaints regarding potholes and other defects to road surfaces which cost local authorities £1 billion in road repairs and £1.9 million compensating motorists. ... MPs Call for Tougher Rules Against Drivers Using their Phones

MPs have called on the government to take tougher actions to tackle motorists using a hand-held mobile phone whilst driving. This follows a report from the Transport Committee that found in 2017 there were 773 casualties including 43 deaths and 135 serious injuries, in collisions where a driver using a mobile phone was a contributory factor. These figures follow the trend seeing a steading rise in deaths and serious injuries since 2011.
