Drivers Highlight Problems with Potholes Every 45 Seconds

As the ‘summer’ weather is now taking a turn for the worse, drivers and other road users are becoming more conscious of the changing conditions to affecting trips up and down the country. Last year, it was reported that potholes and cracks in the road prompted a complaint every 45 seconds from frustrated motorists, cyclists and business owners in the UK.
This amounted to 700,000 complaints regarding potholes and other defects to road surfaces which cost local authorities £1 billion in road repairs and £1.9 million compensating motorists. Despite these numbers appearing large, the Asphalt Industry Alliance has accused councils of a short-term “patch and mend” with the required funding to repair UK roads being closer to £9.7 billion. All in all, UK roads are in a dire state and causing severe damage to fleets across the country.
In fact, when it comes to the damage on our cars, in 2018 alone 31,620 motorists put in for compensation claims due to potholes. This can be incredibly frustrating as in the majority of cases it is not driver error that results in the damage.
