DOWNLOADING THE SUN by Jonathan Ross ML:
Tesla Superchargers sounds like the kind of car toy I would have had for Christmas as a kid in the Eighties, but this one is for real. No one on the planet could help but be impressed by Elon Musk. As the man behind Tesla Motors, Space X, Solar City and founder of PayPal he is a visionary with attitude, and in my opinion is getting a lot right when it comes to the next generation, electric and beyond.
My father-in law-lives in Den Haag, Holland, and as you would expect his community is tidy, clean and, well, European. His...

On Tuesday night, at the annual FN50 dinner, Peter Cakebread was inaugurated into the FN50 Hall of Fame. This was, of course, about recognising the man, but it is also about recognition of the brand. Coincidentally, Peter has been with Marshall for almost 25 years, and alongside his inauguration it was announced that Marshall Leasing has hit 25 in the Fleet News top 50 leasing companies in order of size.
Twenty five years is a long time on anyone’s loyalty card, and Peter has not made this journey alone. Alongside him are fellow directors and...

It’s a dirty business. We have seen the London Mayors office switch its justification for the congestion charge from congestion management to cleaner air management. Diesel was the answer and the government altered its tax collection process to encourage company car drivers to make the change. Petrol was as bad as cigarettes (which had to be banned ), but now it seems we have all been smoking non tipped senior service and the government got the wording down the side of the packet, setting out its health warning wrong. Diesel is apparently extremely bad for your...

On Thursday 26th June, alongside the Marshall Sales Team, Jonathan Ross and Richard Baird were delighted to entertain over sixty people across two days to an action packed day at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Last week’s trip was the ninth year the ML team have entertained clients at the event, which is claimed to be today’s best British motor show.
The team arranged an early meet in the morning for breakfast and a short coach trip up to the festival (which gave the bacon sarnies enough time to settle!) This year, to enhance the experience,...

Following last week’s debate at the 2014 Company Car in Action event, ACFO (the national body for fleet decision-makers) is one step closer to helping the Driver and Vehicle Licence Agency (DVLA) clarify their new paperless policies for driving licences.
The said changes, which are due to come into effect on 1 Jan, 2015, include the abolition of the paper counterpart of the licence, in addition to moving driver and motor checks online with a particular focus on the V5C [Log Book].
For the past year, ACFO has been in regular dialogue with the...

I don’t know about you, but I sometimes hanker back to the days when you could go into a shop and the staff would not only know you by name, but would also have a pretty good idea of what you would wish to buy. And they’d also be happy to have a chat about the football, or whatever else took your fancy.
Now, most sales transactions are just…well, transactions. With little in the way of personality, but plenty of efficiency.
But I would wager that the benefits of that efficiency are largely felt by the vendor, not the customer.
When I am asked...
