France has updated its Low Emission Zone Scheme post-pandemic

France has updated its Low Emission Zone Scheme post-pandemic

If you are planning to drive in France in the future, it may be helpful for you to know that the French government has updated its Crit’Air Scheme, post-pandemic.  The Crit’Air Scheme legally requires drivers in France to use a Crit'Air vignette (clean-air sticker) on the right-hand side of their windscreen to indicate their vehicle’s emission levels. These stickers can be used to restrict access in areas where air quality is poorest in order to improve air quality, with the least polluting vehicles receiving preferential parking and traffic... It has been thirty years since the first speed camera was installed in the UK

Thirty years ago, the first fixed speed camera was brought into use on Twickenham Bridge in West London, catching 23,000 drivers speeding in just 22 days. The first prosecutions were a year later. Now, three decades on, the number of speed cameras on UK roads has grown to around 7,000.  In a recent interview on BBC Radio 4 You and Yours, Richard Allsop, Professor of Transport Studies at the University College of London and a member of the team that first recommended the government should bring in speed cameras, spoke about the impact that speed cameras... New solar-powered pop-up EV charging hub can be deployed in 24 hours

New solar-powered pop-up EV charging hub can be deployed in 24 hours

Solar car park funder and operator 3ti has created a new pop-up solar-powered electric vehicle charging up which can be deployed in just 24 hours.  Three modular canopies supporting 36 solar power optimise charging speed and reduce the carbon intensity of electricity used, and the unit itself is built around a recycled shipping container.  The hub, Papilio3, can support up to 12 EV chargepoints with a battery storage capacity of up to 250 kWh and is hoped to help boost the roll out of EV charging infrastructure and help to... Cost of charging an EV has dramatically increased in line with gas and electricity price increases

Cost of charging an EV has dramatically increased in line with gas and electricity price increases

Following the recent rises in electricity and gas prices, the cost of rapidly charging electric vehicles has risen dramatically, the RAC told the BBC.  Even in the current market, EV charging is still almost half the price per mile of fuelling a petrol or diesel car which has risen 25 and 30 per cent respectively.  However, charging an EV on a pay-as-you-go, non-subscription basis at a public rapid charge point has risen by 21 per cent in the last nine months. Charging an EV at home has also become more expensive and prices vary according to the... Read full article

Illegal use of e-scooters is set to be tackled by new legislation

Did you know that private use of an e-scooter in public spaces and on roads is illegal, unless  it has been hired through a government trial? To tackle this issue, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced on April 27th before the Transport Committee that new legislation will be introduced. The Transport Secretary also defended the safety of the government’s e-scooter trails, which has been questioned since the release of new figures from the Major Trauma Group showed an 82 per cent rise in e-scooter related accidents attended by NHS...
