The gap between the number of plug-in vehicles on UK roads and public charger availability increased year on year between 2021 and 2022.
In some regions, the number of plug-in vehicles per public charger has more than doubled and the gap widened in all but one region in 2022.
The figures, obtained by The Times Newspaper, show that on average there were 36 electric cars on the road to every standard public charger last year, compared with 31 at the end of 2021.

The Department for Transport has invested £4.6 million into helping employers install workplace charge points for electric vehicles (EVs) in the past year through its Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS).
New WCS information recently published on the Government website include:

The latest set of electric charger figures from the government reveals a large disparity in infrastructure between London and the rest of the UK.
Analysis of the data by The Telegraph found that the London Borough of Westminster alone has more EV charging points (1,832) than Birmingham (429), Manchester (158) and Newcastle (152) combined.
Central London also has 893 chargers per 100,000 people, making charging availability 18 times better than in Leeds, and 28 times more than in Bristol.

Whilst ‘range anxiety’ is a key factor preventing many people from making the switch to an electric vehicle (EV), new figures suggest that range anxiety could actually be a myth, with the average EV covering 370 more miles each year than traditional petrol and diesel vehicles.

Oxford City Council has joined forces with Pivot Power, Fastned, Tesla Superchargers and EV charging services provider Wenea to create a new electric vehicle (EV) charging hub which, according to Fleet World, is ‘said to be the most powerful in Europe’.
The hub, at Redbridge Park & Ride in Oxford, will host 10MW of power on site for 38 fast and ultra-rapid chargers: 10 Fastned 300kW chargers, 12 Tesla 250kW Supercharges and 16 Wenea 7-22kW charge points.
