UK Road Deaths Remain Comparable to Shocking 2012 Figures

Safety on the road is paramount, and the importance of this is second to none when managing a fleet of drivers. Recently published statistics highlight the dangerous nature that we often bypass in our minds about UK roads.
Last year, almost 1,800 people died on the road, which sees these statistics published by the Department for Transport being comparable with the levels seen in 2012. As well as 1,782 fatalities, these statistics also uncover that there were an estimated 25,484 serious injuries due to road traffic collisions in 2018, with a total of 160,378 casualties of all severities to add to these shocking numbers.
It has also been reported that last week, the Government launched its Road Safety Plan, which looks to include a number of new measures to combat these shocking statistics. These include ‘alcolocks’, a breath-alcohol ignition-interlock device, which is fitted to the ignition in certain motor vehicles, which are being considered to reduce the number of people killed and injured on UK roads. This will be targeted at road users of all ages, from company car, van drivers and private motorists to older drivers, young adults and children.
