Numerous Motorists Avoiding Bans on UK Roads

Many of us road users experience bad driving on a regular occasion. It can be a frustrating experience to know that these inconsiderate motorists are not learning from their lessons. Recent studies conducted by IAM RoadSmart reveals that over 11,000 drivers a year are still being allowed to legally drive on roads in the UK with 12 or more penalty points on their licence.
When compared to the figures recorded back in 2013, there were an estimated 12,470 drivers then who had more than 12 penalty points against their name, and although the statistics have decreased by 1,470 over the last six years, many businesses and enterprises are concerned that these numbers are still running into five figures. Back when the previous figures had been made public, IAM RoadSmart discussed a series of measures to tackle these issues alongside the DVLA.
The DVLA was due to introduce a brand-new computer system to allow courts access to lists of past offences and reasons given by the drivers. The idea was that courts with the poorest records of not banning drivers who have accounted over 12 penalty points should be naming and shaming, giving an incentive to condemn the poor actions of UK road users. To avoid these actions in future, better training was advised for magistrates alongside a more streamlined sharing of information with the DVLA.
