Government Funding in Place for Low-Carbon Vehicle Technology
15 July 2019
Fossil fuels are a resource to cherish. As technology is constantly evolving, alternative methods to run vehicles are being researched and implemented. To further support these initiatives, thirty-two companies across the UK are currently developing low carbon vehicle technologies. These are set to benefit from £33million UK government investment to encourage further development.
Projects range from the development of high-performance battery packs and electrified construction equipment, to hydrogen-powered engines. The government’s support for these businesses will also help further the establishment of future supply chains following suit. The McLaren Group is producing an ‘ESCAPE project’, which will create a complete end-to-end supply chain for a key component to be used in all electrified vehicles. These include automotive, railway, marine or aviation initiatives. Similarly, Tata Motors European Technical Centre are creating the ‘ZETE project’, whereby an ultra-clean engine reduces emissions in high pollutant sectors including heavy haulage, rail and shipping.
Unipart Powertrain Applications Limited are developing their ‘H1perChain project’, which is set to strengthen the UK’s battery industry by providing a cost-effective route for UK-manufactured batteries into domestic and export markets across the world. Another British-based outfit, Caterpillar Limited, is planning a joint project with AVID Technology to develop a fully electrified construction machine to assist the industry. Lastly, YASA Limited, with the ‘EV-LIFT project’, is aiming to produce a best-in-class Electronic Drive Unit (EDU) for next generation battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
At Marshall Leasing, we understand that the industry is constantly changing, and that it can often be difficult to keep on top of the latest legislative and trend alterations. It’s important to note the upcoming technology developments to best benefit you and your fleet for the future.
