Navigating the classification of journeys
16 November 2020
It has been widely reported by fleet managers and the prestigious organisation, the Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP), that the classification of journeys by employees is causing a headache.
This has arisen in light of the push for people to work from home and the increase in the number of people who are perceiving their place of work as being home.
The AFP chairman Paul Hollick recently said, “If someone is working from home rather than the office, then it raises the question of which is actually their place of work. This is important when it comes to both expenses and risk management.
“For example, if someone now drives their own car to the office once a week, are they allowed to reclaim their travel costs using AMAP rates, as they would for any other business journey that they undertake?
“The other major issue is whether, if someone now uses their own car to travel from home to work, whether that is now seen as a business journey from a risk management point of view, rather a commute.”
It goes without saying that the pandemic is making life more complicated for people who manage fleets and we at Marshall Leasing are here to help people navigate such issues during this difficult time.
If you’re experiencing these questions being raised by colleagues, then we can help provide you with the right answers based on the most recent guidance from the UK government and other official bodies. Please get in touch with us on 01480 414541 or email info@marshall-leasing.co.uk.
