UK Holidaymakers Begin Staycation Boom

UK Holidaymakers Begin Staycation Boom

The fourth of July weekend, just gone, saw English holidaymakers bring back the ‘staycation’.

While there are no official statistics as of yet, the weekend just gone saw the beginning of the predicted boom in staycations, with our roads busier than ever.

As announced by the government last month (June 23 2020) beauty spots, hotels and campsites re-opened across England on Saturday, July 4th 2020. At the same time, travel restrictions were eased to allow for up to two households to travel and stay together overnight in self-contained accommodation.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, holiday plans were abandoned by holidaymakers across England, with little hope of a get-away in the near future. Whilst the current advice is still to avoid international travel wherever possible, the change to allow travel and overnight stays within the England has been welcomed by holidaymakers.

The RAC conducted research among English holidaymakers prior on June 19th, 2020, which showed that 31%, representing around 10.5 million people, planned to travel by car for their staycation.

With this research now proving accurate, holidaymakers planning to travel by car are being encouraged to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and fully checked over prior to their journey. This comes as a rise in breakdowns is being reported with cars back on the road, with the majority having been parked on driveways for the past few months.

We at Marshall Leasing would recommend that your car is fully serviced and that you have breakdown cover in place well before setting off for your holiday.
