Drive-In Entertainment Continues to Make a Comeback
27 July 2020
Comedian Mark Watson has partnered with Drive & Dine Theatre to bring us his very own Carpool Comedy Club.
In an Instagram post back in April, Mark Watson shared a link to the announcement, made by Chortle. Mark Watson said, “As soon as you heard people are starting to do comedy as drive-in nights, you knew deep down I’d get involved. And here we are.
“It’s a new kind of challenge, and someone who’s been doing this for more than 15 years doesn’t often get the chance to say that.
“The truth is nobody knows what they’re going to be like. I can only tell you that my approach to it will be, as usual, to make it the absolute best, most interactive, most two-hours-of-escapism that it can be. And that I’m cautiously excited”.
The event, which first toured in Bath at the beginning of July, has so far hosted fellow comedians Shappi Khorsandi, Ed Byrne, Lou Sanders, Ed Gamble, Zoe Lyons and Josie Long – as well as Mark Watson himself, of course. The Drive & Dine Theatre proclaimed it as “the ultimate drive-in comedy tour”.
The next instalment is coming up in Syon Park, London, on Saturday, August 1 2020. Mark Watson is set to perform, alongside Dara O’Brian, Josie Long and Ahir Shah. Tickets can be bought here at £35 per adult. This comedy is aimed at those aged 14 and over.
We at Marshall Leasing are all for the revival of drive-in entertainment, which last found popularity in the late 50’s and early 60’s. Despite the recent lockdown, we can find light in these new opportunities to come together and rediscover the pleasure of entertainment in the open air.
