Online Speed Awareness Courses to Be Made Permanent
17 September 2020
Online UK Road Offender Education (UKROEd) courses could be made permanent, says TTC group, following the success of virtual classrooms using the Zoom app during the lockdown period, over which the frequency of speeding offences has tripled.
According to the BBC, “The Met Police issued 3,282 Traffic Offence Reports to drivers suspected of exceeding the limit in April 2020, compared with 1,922 in April 2019”. Deputy Superintendent, Andy Cox, of the Metropolitan Police said, "Early on, for some people driving at extreme speeds, they would be really surprised to see us there. They would actually come out and say, 'we thought you'd be busy dealing with Covid'.”
Online National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme courses have saved time, reduced travel requirements and created more availability. Also, online courses have also proven beneficial for those with special requirements, such as the hard of hearing, with tailored courses being made available.
TTC Group is the biggest provider of UKROEd courses in the UK. The group’s client services director, Sharon Haynes, said “It’s all about making a positive difference, whether that is by creating safer motorists or by addressing key social issues in the areas we operate in.
“Online or in person these rehabilitation programmes can have a positive, life changing influence on people and it is so important to offer as many people as possible convenient access to them.
“The move to virtual classrooms continues to prove a major success and we look forward to understanding more of the impact of this in the near future”.
Haynes went on to say “This really did change the face of the driver offender rehabilitation programme and acts as a great template to consider what we can do in association with UKROEd moving ahead to benefit all key stakeholders from individual drivers, police forces, other road users and employers alike.
“However, there is still much work to be done behind the scenes and we are working alongside UKROEd to ensure the emerging benefits are supported by key data insights.”
