Electric vehicle internet searches have soared amid HGV driver shortage

Electric car experts Elecritfying.com recently reported to the RAC that searches on its website relating to electric vehicles (EVs) increased by 75 per cent in the weekend of October Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th.

At the same time, Google searches for ‘electric car’ were up by 300 per cent.

It is possible that the current shortage of HGV drivers delivering fuel to forecourts could be linked to the significant spike in searches for EVs, for which the charging infrastructure is less dependent on external factors than petrol and diesel stations.

Founder of Electrifying.com Ginny Buckley said, “The fuel shortages we are seeing feels like a throwback to a previous era – there is no doubt the future is electric.

“It is only natural that even staunch advocates of petrol and diesel vehicles are probably considering making the switch to an electric car. Our website is currently seeing a significant surge in interest”.

As public charging infrastructure is ever improving, with some petrol and service stations now being equipped with chargers capable of ‘fast charging’, EVs are increasingly becoming a more desirable option than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles from all perspectives.

At Marshall Leasing, we are always interested in understanding consumer behaviour relating to electric vehicle uptake and trust that you find this information useful. If you are thinking about making the switch, we would be delighted to assist.
