The AFP has created a new Dealer Standard

The Association of Fleet Professionals (APF) has introduced a new guide: The AFP Dealer Standard, which it hopes will be voluntarily adopted industrywide by dealers and fleets as a benchmark for vehicle delivery.
The Association has created the standard in response to a handful of factors which, in recent years, have made the handover element of receiving a new vehicle ‘even more critical’.
These elements are:
- A higher level of complexity in vehicle features and functions which the AFP says, ‘are often wide-ranging and complex, and require detailed and expert explanation’.
- Increased safety precautions during the handover process due to the pandemic.
- Many drivers are now switching to their first electric vehicle and ‘need to learn how to use it’.
The AFP Dealer Standard consists of extensive checklists covering both pre-delivery inspection (PDI) and driver handover. It is hoped that adherence to the standard will improve driver satisfaction and safety.
