Could communication be the key to improving road safety?

DriveTech has released a new whitepaper, The Global Language of Road Safety and Why it Matters’, which highlights road safety issues in the UK and aims to “inspire widespread thinking” about the language used to communicate road safety.

The report offers practical advice on how to reduce driving risk within a business and provides clear points for a successful driving for work policy.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) have found that 1.35 million fatalities occur across the globe each year as a result of road traffic collisions. Further insight from WHO suggests that, whilst road fatalities have reduced over the past decade, the decline is not yet steep enough.

WHO also suggests that technology will play a part in road safety issues as we move towards fully autonomous vehicles. According to the report, “This highlights the need for drivers to receive ongoing education and stay abreast of technological and legislative changes”.

Managing director at DriveTech Charlie Norman said, “Road traffic deaths and injuries can be prevented, they are not inevitable. Yet, in the UK alone, there are still in excess of 400 casualties on the roads every day.

“Reducing these figures requires input from a variety of sources, but there’s a crucial role that business can play.

“Communicating road safety to employees will have a direct impact on how they behave behind the wheel.

“The fact that, collectively, we can do something about road traffic incidents is extremely inspiring.”

Norman says that the new whitepaper communicates why language is one of the most powerful tools, offering practical advice on what steps you should be taking to help “influence positive behaviour and put safety first”.
