The number of cars needing a new battery has increased by a third during lockdown

A telematics provider has found that the number of vehicles needing a new battery has increased by a third during lockdown, reports Fleet News.

Research into the effects of lockdown on the health of 5,000 vehicles shows that, whilst there was an overall decline of 4% in fault codes, the number of batteries needing a re-charge had increased by 46%. This highlights the value of telematics systems. We at Marshall Leasing are pleased to offer our own telematics service, Marshallmatics, which is a great tool for tracking driver behaviour and the impact it may have on the health of your fleet vehicles.

Interestingly, pay-by-mile car insurance provider By Miles has seen a 51% decrease in miles driven by its customers during the UK’s most recent lockdown, compared with January 2019.

Head of product at By Miles Oliver Baxter said, “Our pay-by-mile policies were popular with lower mileage drivers all over the UK before the unfortunate events of the last year took place, and with lockdowns forcing drivers to stay at home more than they would usually - there are now even fewer cars on the roads, so we have more low mileage drivers than ever making use of flexible pay-as-you-drive policies.”

We at Marshall Leasing know that many fleets have suffered due to the recent MOT and servicing backlogs, which is why we have been delighted to be able to assist our customers with their vehicle servicing during periods of lockdown. If you would like to find out more about the services we offer, and how we could assist in the smooth operation of your fleet, please get in touch with us by emailing info@marshall-leasing.co.uk or calling 01480 414541.
