Airport drop-off charges are soaring

Airport drop-off charges are soaring

Investigation by the RAC found that 16 out of 22 airports observed have introduced or raised charges for dropping passengers off since 2019.

London Stansted Airport currently levies the highest charge for dropping a passenger off close to the terminal - £7 for up to 15 minutes. The investigation found that this price has increased from £4 for 10 minutes in 2019.

Representatives for Stanstead have said that the charge "makes an important contribution to encouraging alternative, more sustainable transport options". This is supported by the fact that passengers can be dropped off at its mid and long-stay car parks, which are connected to the terminals by buses, free of charge.

Heathrow Airport now poses a £5 terminal drop-off charge. Gatwick Airport levies a minimum £5 charge to use designated drop-off zones in the North and South terminals. London Luton Airport charges £5 for five minutes and an additional £1 for every minute thereafter to drop passengers off closest to the terminal – though, this airport does also have free to use drop-off zones further from the terminal.

Manchester Airport charges £5 for five minutes and £6 for ten minutes.

Travellers are advised to check terminal drop off charges for the airport they are flying with before setting off.
