The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022

June 23rd 2022 saw the Marshall Leasing team back at the wonderful Goodwood Festival of Speed. The event is world renowned as one of the great motoring showcases and with good reason. Nowhere else offers the diversity and access to everything from pre-war classics to Ford’s latest incarnation of the legendary “SuperVan” (a 2000HP full EV!).

The atmosphere throughout the event was fantastic, with everybody in attendance clearly excited to see the latest models and technologies from the world of electrification, with large parts of the event dedicated to EV, charging infrastructure and future developments. The shift to EV in the corporate and fleet sector is very much established, but to see so much interested from all attendees was hugely encouraging. The fact that the famous timed shootout up the Goodwood hill was won yet again by a full EV can only continue to heighten the public’s interest, this year seeing the McMurtry Fan car break the outright record with a frankly staggering 39.08 seconds.

Of course the magic of Goodwood means that alongside the very latest vehicles, there are hundreds of priceless classics and race prepped machinery on display as well. Unparalleled access to a full paddock of historic race cars is quite something to behold, giving the feeling that guests are in fact walking around the pits of a race meeting from the past.

Marshall Leasing took advantage of the sublime backdrop by hosting customers and prospective clients for lunch at the Goodwood Bar & Grill, as well as catching up with industry colleagues throughout the day. Shared stories of Goodwood experiences were interspersed with the ongoing challenges and considerations in their fleets today, particularly around EV availability and supply. It certainly seems that despite the vast amounts of new vehicles on display at the Festival, acquiring them in any meaningful volumes continues to be a different story.
