Have you heard about ‘anti-braking’ technology?
08 December 2023
The latest forecast speed camera updates include new ‘anti-braking’ technology which can detect when drivers brake harshly directly before passing a speed camera.
The system, which uses a standard fixed speed camera and two mobile radar devices, has been successfully trialled in North Eastern Spain and could soon be rolled out in the UK.
Founder of dash cam company Road Angel, Gary Digva told the Express newspaper, “From the information I have, this technology will probably be making its way over to the UK towards this part of next year”.
The first radar device is placed some distance before the first speed camera and can detect drivers who brake excessively, while the second camera is placed up to a kilometre past the fixed speed camera to catch those who speed back soon after they’ve passed the speed camera zone.
Gary Digva also said, “If introduced, these devices will catch and penalise more speeding motorists, encouraging more drivers to stick to legal limits and improving road safety. One in four fatal collisions occur due to speeding on UK roads, meaning over 2,500 people are seriously injured every year due to excessive speeds.
“These shocking statistics alone should encourage motorists to think twice before speeding, yet it’s safe to say that the new technology will penalise even more motorists who are driving in excess of the legal limit, therefore helping to keep UK roads safer for all users.
“By capturing drivers who slam on the brakes before passing the fixed speed camera, as well as using technology to apprehend motorists who speed up again after the camera, the new radar devices will be able to penalise many more motorists than current systems.”
