Things to consider when managing a fleet

Things to consider when managing a fleet

Effectively managing a fleet isn’t always an easy task. When dealing with a number of vehicles you have to consider not just the vehicles themselves, but also health, safety, and of course legislation. However, fortunately, a little bit of purposeful planning can bring in some significant results. Here are 8 things to consider when managing a fleet. 1. Stay in control of your data One of the quickest ways fleet managers can get overwhelmed is when getting bogged down by data. Make sure you have a way to centralise your information so when you have to... Read full article

The Future of Fuel

The Future of Fuel

With growing media coverage on the environmental impact of diesel vehicles, in this article we try to illustrate the known facts to enable you to make an informed decision about the future fuel policy for your company vehicle fleet. The Environmental Issue Diesel is created as a by-product of the distillation of petroleum, it has a higher base content of oil and therefore is more viscose than petrol.  By relying on a complex series of heaters within the engine for ignition, there is no need for spark plugs to create the combustion and therefore historically... Pros and Cons of Providing Company Cars to Your Employees

Pros and Cons of Providing Company Cars to Your Employees

Company cars offer a great many perks for staff, but just like with everything, they also come with their fair share of downsides. Not least is the task presented for the employer and employees in making sense of the tax system, but also the potentiality of racking up costs with high purchase prices and maintenance issues. But these cons aren't putting people off. As a study last year proved, showing that every year around half of all new cars sold in the UK are sold to companies for use as company vehicles. It all comes down to taking more care and... Read full article

The roads in the UK are inadequate for autonomous cars

The roads in the UK are inadequate for autonomous cars

The fleet industry and technology experts have dubbed the UK's road network unfit for autonomous cars in its current state, citing road surfaces, highway furniture and the frequency of roadworks as obstacles to wide-scale adoption. The chief executive of the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association, Gerry Keaney, said: "There's still a lot of work to be done for the best and most effective application for an autonomous vehicle. There's also a question mark about whether or not our roads are up to scratch, and we're going to get into this... Read full article

Big data to drive "massive revolution" in fleet industry

The fleet industry is set to undergo a “massive revolution” with the introduction of the connected car and the arrival of so-called ‘big data’, while contract hire companies will transform into analytics businesses that lease vehicles. Those were two of the predictions at ACFO’s spring seminar, ‘Big Data - Big Seminar’ Held at Whittlebury Hall, Northamptonshire, around 80 fleet decision-makers, heard Nick Mitchell, Audi’s service and technical manager, say: “The arrival of the connected car will result in massive... UK employees spend a fifth of their salary on motoring costs

Recent research by YourParkingSpace.co.uk has revealed that the average worker spends nearly a fifth of their wages on motoring costs, including car finance, fuel and insurance to enable them to drive to and from work. With many workers now driving up to 60 minutes or more on their daily commute it’s not surprising the costs are adding up. The findings reveal that UK workers who travel to work by car reportedly spend around 19.5% of their salary on the journey, with some £362 of the average monthly take home pay being consumed up by car related... The Top 3 Benefits of Leasing Over Buying an Electric Car

The Top 3 Benefits of Leasing Over Buying an Electric Car

Today in the UK there are over 55,000 electric vehicles (EVs) on the road, and that’s only counting those purchased with help from the government’s Plug-in Car Grant. The real figure is much larger. And with the recent £40 million fund awarded to Nottingham, Bristol, Milton Keynes, and London to help drive the ‘green car revolution’, thousands more are expected to take to the roads. The fund will be spent on charging infrastructure, improving public knowledge, parking, and other schemes particular to each of the four cities. All this... Read full article
